On a pedal steel guitar, the strings have two contact forces working against them: the rollers at each end of the instrument.
The challenge steel builders face is getting the rollers small enough to increase resonance but big enough to pull strings to their proper pitch.
At Jackson Steel, our goal was to get back the sound of the original Sho-Bud Permanent models. By using Dual Pulling Heads (patents applied for), we were able to re-incorporate some of the ancient family secrets and then go a couple steps further. We redesigned our string pullers with The Edge™ (patents applied for) and added an optional/interchangeable nut with The Edge on the key head end.
With the strings only contacting a straight edge on either end of the instrument, they can vibrate about as long as you can move your bar. In fact, your hand might get tired. (As one of the pros put it, the instrument practically plays itself.)
We actually surpassed that original "Shot Jackson sound" with one that resonates from Nashville to LA. Wouldn’t he be proud...
